Why hire a Penn State Behrend Finance graduate?

Students pursuing Penn State Behrend’s Finance degree become highly prepared for professional life. The program offers students options, such as a dual degree in Finance and Accounting, investment career development through our CFA-Affiliated program or our CAIA-Affiliated program, or education in personal financial planning through our CFP Board Registered Program. Behrend Finance students actively manage investments of over $1 million through our Intrieri Family Student-Managed Fund. The gains the student managers realize are real, the losses they encounter are real, and the educational experience they gain is priceless.

An Exclusive Education

Penn State Behrend is a member of the Chartered Financial Analyst Institute’s University Affiliation Program, signifying that at least 70 percent of the CFA program candidate body of knowledge is incorporated into the curriculum. Our students are well-prepared for the CFA exams. The program is also a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst Academic Partner, offering students access to scholarships to earn the CAIA designation. Additionally, students can choose to complete our 18-credit Certified Financial Planner Board Registered Program, making these students immediately eligible to sit for the national CFP Certification examination.

Next Level Simulation

Finance students work on our simulated trading floor using the same Bloomberg information services that professional traders and investors use. Students can earn certificates in Bloomberg proficiency. The student managers of the Intrieri Fund use Bloomberg terminals as part of the fund management process.

Perspectives on the Finance Program

Yonari Asgedom

2024 Graduate, Finance and Business Economics

The Black School of Business was pivotal in preparing me for an internship with Vanguard’s Investment Management Group. My involvement as president of the Financial Management Association Club and as a lead analyst for the Intrieri Family Student-Managed Fund — worth approximately $1.2 million — provided invaluable real-world experience. These opportunities equipped me with practical skills and insights necessary to excel in the competitive field of investment management. I was provided with hands-on finance theory and practical Bloomberg Lab exposure, shaping me into a proficient equity analyst ready for the challenges of the financial world.

Having hired several Behrend students as interns and two students for full-time work at H&A, I highly recommend Penn State Behrend students for employment due to their exceptional work ethic and dedication. Their strong academic background and practical experience gained through industry-specific projects/classes and internships make them valuable assets to my organization. Additionally, their ability to adapt quickly and contribute effectively to team projects showcases their strong problem-solving and communication skills.
