Why hire a Penn State Behrend Finance graduate?

Students pursuing Penn State Behrend’s Finance degree become highly prepared for professional life. The program offers students options, such as a dual degree in Finance and Accounting, investment career development through our CFA-Affiliated program or our CAIA-Affiliated program, or education in personal financial planning through our CFP Board Registered Program. Behrend Finance students actively manage investments of nearly $1 million through our Intrieri Family Student-Managed Fund. The gains the student managers realize are real, the losses they encounter are real, and the educational experience they gain is priceless.

An Exclusive Education

Penn State Behrend is a member of the Chartered Financial Analyst Institute’s University Affiliation Program, signifying that at least 70 percent of the CFA program candidate body of knowledge is incorporated into the curriculum. Our students are well-prepared for the CFA exams. The program is also a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst Academic Partner, offering students access to scholarships to earn the CAIA designation. Additionally, students can choose to complete our 18-credit Certified Financial Planner Board Registered Program, making these students immediately eligible to sit for the national CFP Certification examination.

Next Level Simulation

Finance students work on our simulated trading floor using the same Bloomberg information services that professional traders and investors use. Students can earn certificates in Bloomberg proficiency. The student managers of the Intrieri Fund use Bloomberg terminals as part of the fund management process.

Perspectives on the Finance Program

Nicole Kittelberger

Photo of Nicole Kittelberger

2020 Graduate, Finance and International Business Major, Spanish Minor

Nicole was selected for an exclusive internship with the wealth management division of UBS in Manhattan. Only 24 people nationwide were hired for this coveted role. She worked with the private banking team, which manages $7 billion in assets for ultra-high net worth clients. Nicole also helped onboard private-equity clients and learned UBS’s method for asset allocation in high-yield funds. UBS was so impressed with Nicole and the education she received in Penn State Behrend’s Finance program that she was hired as a graduate talent program analyst beginning the summer after graduation!

2020 Graduate, Finance Major

“Our firm, C.S. McKee, has a history of hiring employees who attended some of the most prestigious business schools in the country, and without a doubt, Penn State Behrend provided an impressive foundation that allowed Jason, a Behrend graduate, to seamlessly transition into the business world. The analytical, critical thinking, and communication skills that Jason developed at Behrend resulted in him immediately adding a level of value to clients and colleagues that we typically do not see from recent college graduates.”
—Shane Nickolich, CFA, Vice President, C.S. McKee, Pittsburgh, PA
