Why hire a Penn State Behrend Business Economics graduate?
Penn State Behrend is the only location in the Penn State system where students can earn the versatile B.S. in Business Economics. In addition to economics, our students study the essentials of business practice–accounting, finance, marketing, and management. Students learn to apply their economic understanding and thinking to each of these disciplines, allowing them to formulate better decisions at every level. The breadth of this program provides students with a solid foundation for a career in any number of fields, both public and private. Business Economic majors develop the tools to rise to the top of their field.
More Than Just a Degree
Our Business Economics students have opportunities to earn research grants to perform undergraduate research with faculty mentors, providing them with valuable hands-on experience working with real-time data, while learning to effectively produce well-written, succinct reports. They also have the opportunity to work with the Economic Research Institute of Erie (E.R.I.E.) as an undergraduate research assistant. E.R.I.E. is the go-to source in northwestern Pennsylvania for our regional leaders and media who have questions about the local, national, and international economies. The undergraduate research assistants help to gather, analyze, and disseminate real-world data to forecast shifts in the economy.

Hannah Carlino
2019 Graduate, B.S. in Business Economics and Marketing
Hannah completed a summer internship in the Finance Leadership Development program at Thermo Fisher Scientific. In this role, she led a project to determine where her division had significant lost revenue and curated a process for the recapture of $2 million of incremental revenue. As a result of her education at Penn State Behrend and her performance during the internship, Hannah accepted a full-time offer to begin her professional career with Thermo Fisher Scientific as a Financial Analyst II in their U.S. Research and Safety Division in Pittsburgh.
Nicholas Findley
2018 Graduate, B.S. in Business Economics and Finance
As a student, Nick interned in the Investment Division at Erie Insurance, where his training from Behrend on the Bloomberg Terminal proved useful. After graduation, he accepted a full-time position with the company as an Investment Analyst. His dual degrees in Business Economics and Finance allowed him to quickly excel, using the education he received to analyze investments in his assigned coverage area.
