Young People's Chorus of Erie is Looking for New Choristers

The Ypung People's Chorus of Erie, a youth outreach program of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, is currently looking for new choristers.The Young People’s Chorus of Erie, a youth outreach program of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Penn State Behrend, will hold open rehearsals in January for its 2017 Winter/Spring season.

Open rehearsals give young people between the ages of 7 and 18 the opportunity to attend a rehearsal, meet the staff and learn about YPC Erie. The chorus is northwestern Pennsylvania’s only comprehensive youth choral music program specializing in healthy vocal technique, music literacy and music theory. Children from 30 different schools participate in YPC Erie.

Open rehearsals will be held at the Larry and Kathryn Smith Chapel on the campus of Penn State Behrend and at St. John's Lutheran Church, 2216 Peach Street for YPC Erie's various ensembles:

  • Cantare - Training choir for beginning singers with rehearsals every Thursday from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m.
  • Concert Chorus - Advanced girls and boys (pre-voice change) chorus with rehearsals every Monday from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m.
  • Young Men's Chorus - Advanced boys (post-or-mid-voice change) chorus with rehearsals every Tuesday from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m.
  • Chorale - Advanced mixed chorus with members of Concert Chorus and Young Men's Chorus with rehearsals every Wednesday from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m.

  • Jan. 23, 4:30 - 6:30 p.m., Smith Chapel, Penn State Behrend (Concert Chorus)
  • Jan. 24, 4:30 - 6:30 p.m., Smith Chapel, Penn State Behrend (Young Men's Chorus)
  • Jan. 25, 4:30 - 6:30 p.m., Smith Chapel, Penn State Behrend (Chorale)
  • Jan. 26, 4:30 - 6:30 p.m., St. John's Lutheran Church, 2216 Peach Street (Parish Center is on 23rd Street) (Cantare)
