Starting a New Club
Why Start a Club?
Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) can take advantage of the following benefits offered through Student Leadership and Involvement:
- Request activity funding through the Student Activity Fee
- Reserve rooms and outdoor spaces
- Promote their club activities via Discover Penn State (formerly BehrendSync), flyers, digital signage, and various other ways
- Get professional event feedback from the SLI staff
How to Become an RSO
Any student can submit a request to form an RSO. To start, the prospective club must have a minimum of ten members: a president, a treasurer (two different individuals), and at least eight additional members.
During the registration process, the club will be asked to upload a current club constitution. Download a copy of the Penn State recommended template (Word). For constitution questions, please set up an appointment with the Student Government Association.
Once a list of these members' names and emails has been collected, the prospective club’s president can log into Discover Penn State. Find the “Organizations” tab under the site menu and select “Register a New Organization.” Follow the online prompts and click “submit” once all the required information is filled in.
After the registration form is filled out, the SGA Chief of Staff will be in contact regarding the next steps forward. Final approval of all clubs and organizations will come from Student Leadership and Involvement.
Club Officers
Student Leadership and Involvement provides support to all recognized student organizations. Current club officers can find important resources through the SLI office and on Discover Penn State.
Current and upcoming club officers of all roles and positions are welcomed and encouraged to enroll in our virtual officer course on Canvas. Presidents and treasurers will be contacted each re-registration period to complete their required training.
Additionally, officers can find important resources through these helpful University pages.
Discovery Fair
These annual events allow students to explore involvement opportunities both on and off campus. Registration is required for organizations wishing to host resource tables. Check Discover Penn State for the upcoming event dates and registration information.
Funding
Student organization events and projects are eligible for funding from a variety of sources.
