Costs of Visits and Services
The actual cost of your visit will be determined by your clinician's or nurse's actual assessment and treatment. Please contact the Health Center to find out the cost of a particular service.
For your convenience, we accept insurance from most major health plans at the Health Center. Please see our insurance page for more information regarding insurances that are accepted.
We will submit patients' bills to their insurance companies. If we are in-network with your plan, we will accept what your insurance company pays and only charge you for co-pays, co-insurance, and deductibles. If your insurance company does not cover a particular service, you may be liable for that portion of the bill also. If we are out-of-network with your insurance company you may be responsible for the entire amount of the bill.
You can also pay by cash, check, LionCash+, or charge it to your student account. Most claims will be sent to your insurance company. If you did not give us your insurance information at your first visit, you have 24 hours to get this information to us. Once 24 hours have passed, the charges will be posted to your Bursar’s account.
Will my insurance company cover the services received at the Health Center?
We recommend that you find out ahead of time if your insurance will cover your care, as there may be restrictions on primary care doctors who are outside of the insurance company’s network. (Your insurance card may have HMO or EPO on it.) Please contact your insurance company about your coverage.
Fees and Payment Methods
All charges are your responsibility. You must pay at the time of service by either having the charge billed to your insurance or your Penn State account, or by paying with LionCash+, cash, or check.
There is a “no show/no call” fee of $30 if initial appointments and women’s annual examinations are not canceled 24 hours in advance. Fees for "no show/no call" are applied to your student account.
Billing and Payment Process
If charges are posted to your student account, you can view your statement on LionPath. This statement includes the following information:
- Date the bill was posted to your account
- Amount of the charge
- Terms such as “ER Health Center” mean medication and self-pay balances NOT sent to insurance
- Terms such as “ER Health Center MHS” mean office visit-related charges (co-pays, deductibles, and co-insurance balances) AFTER your insurance processes
Charges posted to the student account can be paid at the Penn State Office of the Bursar (103 Shields Building, University Park, PA 16802, phone: 814-865-6528), which accepts various payment options. To pay by credit card, please visit your LionPath account. The staff assistants at the reception desk can answer any questions you may have regarding billing and payment.
Confidentiality
Your bill contains some summary medical information pertaining to your visit. The bill is therefore a confidential document that will only be shared with the parties you have authorized to release the information.
