The American Chemistry Council has awarded $100,000 to researchers at Penn State Behrend, where a team of polymer scientists is exploring the lower limits of microplastics and their potential impact in the environment, including Lake Erie.
Penn State Behrend’s College for Kids featured more than 100 summer youth courses, including “Forensic Files,” which taught science through a series of staged crime scenes.

Penn State University Libraries’ Teaching and Learning with Technology (TLT) has named 13 recipients of the 2024 Faculty Engagement Award with this year’s theme of “Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Teaching.” Recipients will collaborate with TLT staff to identify potential uses, constraints and best practices for using generative AI for teaching purposes. Faculty will utilize available generative AI tools including Microsoft Copilot and Adobe Firefly to assist in content creation, course planning and content delivery.

A snow-themed class put a new spin on Penn State Behrend’s College for Kids, a six-week summer-enrichment program. Students stitched their own winter hats and built igloos with marshmallows.
This year's Wabtec Girls camp at Penn State Behrend offered hands-on workshops in science, technology and engineering. "We're trying to encourage these young women to stay in math and science courses," said Melanie Ford, director of Youth Education Outreach at Behrend and the coordinator of the camp.
