A new $50,000 scholarship endowment will honor Colten Brown, a Penn State Behrend graduate who died in 2021. Brown, who transferred to Penn State as a junior, quickly became known as “Mr. Penn State Behrend.”
Alicyn Rhoades, an expert in polymer engineering and a faculty member at Penn State Behrend, has been named vice chancellor and associate dean for research and graduate studies at the college. She will lead the strategy, planning and administration of research, graduate programs, and research and outreach centers at Behrend, where she has taught since 2012.
Forty new graduates of the nursing program at Penn State Behrend gathered before commencement for a pinning ceremony — a tradition that dates to the Crusades. This year’s program was held at the Ambassador Banquet and Conference Center in Erie.

The Penn State Behrend softball team lost to Penn State Altoona in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championship series, falling 10-2 and 9-4. Jocelyn McNany, a sophomore from Cranberry Township, hit a two-run home run in the first game. Sierra Williams, a sophomore from Grove City, did the same in the nightcap.
