The Penn State Behrend track and field teams opened their outdoor seasons March 25 at the Cal U Early Bird Invitational. The men’s team won the shot put and the 110- and 400-meter hurdles; the women won the 800-meter relay. The National Science Foundation has awarded a five-year, $500,000 grant to Alicyn Rhoades, an assistant professor of engineering at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, to study how friction and cooling rates during the manufacturing process affect the strength, flexibility and biodegradation of plastic materials.
