Martina Edwards was the first Black woman to hold a seat at the New York Stock Exchange. “I had to prove that I belonged there,” she said during a Nov. 10 visit to Penn State Behrend. “And performance was my currency.”
A new mobile Penn State id+ card is anticipated to launch in January 2023, allowing students to use their mobile devices to conveniently, safely and securely access campus housing facilities, purchase meals, and more.
Penn State Behrend swimmer Tim Compton, a sophomore from Pittsburgh, set a pool record in the 400 IM at Pitt-Bradford on Nov. 5. He finished in 4:18.55. He also won the 200 freestyle, finishing in 1:50.14.
A team of Penn State Behrend students has developed multilingual safety signage for Port Erie Plastics, a Harborcreek Township injection-molding company that employs a diverse workforce, including new Americans.
Penn State students, faculty and staff with older versions of the id+ card are being asked to submit new photos ahead of re-carding events that will be held University-wide during the spring 2023 semester. There are multiple ways to submit a photo, and photos will be accepted from Nov. 7 through Nov. 23.
Penn State’s Institute for Computational and Data Sciences will host an informational open house focused on how Penn State Behrend researchers can leverage the power of supercomputing. The event will be held in Room 236 in Burke Center on Wednesday, Nov. 9, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Dr. Ala Stanford, class of 1991 and 1997, a pediatric surgeon and advocate for health-care equity who began her college career at Penn State Behrend, has been named one of 14 Penn State Alumni Fellows for 2022.
Penn State Behrend’s cross country teams won the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championships at Mt. Aloysius on Oct. 29. Kody Klein, a sophomore from North East, won the men’s individual title. Savanna Carr, a senior from Franklin, won the women’s championship.

The Women’s Engagement Council at Penn State Behrend formed to better recognize the growing importance of women in leadership roles. Two dozen women serve on the council’s board of directors.
