Invent Penn State dedicates Innovation Commons lab at Penn State Behrend

Penn State Behrend's Innovation Commons — an idea laboratory, maker space, technology playground, legal office, marketing agency and entrepreneurs’ gathering spot rolled under one roof — has opened to support small businesses and startups. The facility was funded in part by the Invent Penn State initiative.

Ralph Ford Named Chancellor of Penn State Behrend

Ralph Ford, former director of the School of Engineering and associate dean for industry and external relations at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, has been named chancellor of the college. He had served as interim chancellor since July 1.

Ford was selected following a national search. As chancellor, he will serve as the chief academic and administrative officer for the college.

Penn State Behrend's Top Highlights of 2015

2015 was a special year for Penn State Behrend. Most notably, we welcomed more than 1,200 first-year students, we launched new academic programs, and construction began on the Advanced Manufacturing and Innovation Center.

We also had a couple significant guests this year as television and music stars Kunal Nayyar and Lee Brice were among those who visited campus.

New Graduates Honored at Fall Commencement

Penn State Behrend awarded 172 bachelor’s, master’s and associate degrees during its fall commencement ceremony on Dec. 18. The program was held in the Junker Center on campus.

Daniel S. Mead, former president and CEO of Verizon Wireless, delivered the commencement address. Interim Chancellor Ralph Ford and Council of Fellows Chairman Scott McCain also offered remarks.

The upcoming holiday season offers the perfect distraction for stressed-out students. In this last week of classes, we found plenty of holiday cramming going on with every area from Housing and Food Services to Student Activities to the School of Engineering fitting in some festive merrymaking before the semester ends.
