Penn State Behrend awarded 172 bachelor’s, master’s and associate degrees during its fall commencement ceremony on Dec. 18. The program was held in the Junker Center on campus.
Daniel S. Mead, former president and CEO of Verizon Wireless, delivered the commencement address. Interim Chancellor Ralph Ford and Council of Fellows Chairman Scott McCain also offered remarks.
The upcoming holiday season offers the perfect distraction for stressed-out students. In this last week of classes, we found plenty of holiday cramming going on with every area from Housing and Food Services to Student Activities to the School of Engineering fitting in some festive merrymaking before the semester ends.

A comprehensive national search has identified three finalists for the position of Chancellor at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College. Each finalist will meet with key constituencies, including students, faculty members, staff members, the college’s Council of Fellows and administrators in both Erie and at University Park. Campus interviews have been scheduled for Dec. 2, Dec. 14 and Dec. 15.
Penn State Behrend will begin construction of a $25 million, 250-bed residence hall in the spring of 2017. The building, which will be located near Ohio Hall, at the southwest corner of campus, is scheduled to open at the start of the fall 2018 semester.
While many people agonize over choosing the right career path, Ian Campbell found his early, as a freshman in high school.
“That’s when I had my first chemistry class,” he said. “I excelled at it, and I really enjoyed it. I knew then that I was going to major in chemistry or materials science.”
