Want to Win in the NHL? Score First -- but not until the Third

The team that scores first has an advantage in a National Hockey League game. That should be obvious: They are, at that point, winning.

The extent of that advantage, however, depends on when the goal is scored. If it comes at any point in the first two periods of a game, the probability that the team scoring first will win is 66.7 percent, said Samantha Key, a mathematics major at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College.

174 Student-athletes Earn 3.0 GPA or Better in Fall Semester

Garrett Fiscus was one of 174 Penn State Behrend student-athletes to earn a grade point average of 3.0 or greater during the fall semester.Garrett Fiscus has won two Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships, advanced to two NCAA Tournaments and started sixty-four games while playing soccer at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College.

Yet, his greatest accomplishments are of a different nature.

Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, has developed the region’s first master’s degree in professional accounting. The 30-credit program will satisfy the educational requirements that are needed to become a Certified Public Accountant in Pennsylvania and most neighboring states.

A formal curriculum proposal will be presented to the Penn State Board of Trustees in July.
