Project Management FAQs

Do classes need to be taken in order?

Yes. As you and a team select a project and work on this throughout the program, we require that you move through the program with that team.

What if I’m new to managing projects? Is this the right program for me?

The course introduces and reviews the key principles and terminology every Project Manager or those working with Project Managers should know. The program works students through the lifecycle of a project from the initiation, planning, costing stages, and then helping students figure out the risks that could sideline a project. Novice and experienced Project Managers take this class and are surprised at the foundations this course provides. Even though students may have been in Project Management for years, they realized how much they did not know. Please ask us if we can help you on the journey.

What are the differences between the Project Management Certificate Program and the PMP Exam Prep?

  • The Project Management Certificate program provides you with the foundation of how to work on a project from beginning to end.
  • The PMP® Exam Prep is a prep course that prepares you to sit for the PMP® Exam. That is its goal.

Do I have to pay for the entire program upon the start?

You do not need to pay for the entire program up front. We offer a pay-as-you-go option for each class in the program. If your employer offers reimbursement, requires invoicing, or some other format, we can work with all parties to ensure this is possible.

Can I sit for the PMP Exam after taking the Project Management Certificate Program.

After completion, you would have enough hours to sit for the exam, but there are experience and educational prerequisites that apply. We encourage a review of those qualifiers by visiting PMI.org. As Penn State is an ATP, this program would provide the necessary (PDU’s).

What happens if I miss a class?

We understand that life events can happen unexpectedly and do not adhere to schedules. As a member of a project team, you should inform the instructor and your team members of the absence and make an alternative plan.

Do the discounts on other Penn State project management courses expire?

Once you’ve completed the Certificate program, we offer a discount if you continue to the PMP Exam Prep Program. That discount is honored/eligible for two years.

How long will this program take me to complete?

This program consists of four courses that take place over 28 weeks total, one night per week. We obviously will avoid any holidays.
