Behrend professor completes 10-week NASA fellowship

Charlotte Marr de Vries, an assistant professor of mechanical engineering at Penn State Behrend, completed a 10-week faculty fellowship at NASA's George C. Marshall Space Flight Center. She worked with a team that studied water and air systems for a proposed space flight to Mars.

Penn State Behrend’s SAE Club team finished first in this year’s International Supermileage Challenge, held June 7-8 at the Eaton Corporation’s Marshall Proving Grounds test track in Michigan. The competition challenges teams to create vehicles that squeeze the most mileage out of a single tank of high-octane gasoline. The Behrend vehicle traveled 3,013 miles on one gallon of gas, which was a new United States record.

The Behrend Medallion, Penn State Behrend’s foremost recognition of an individual who has brought honor to his or her profession and community, was presented to Thomas B. Hagen, chairman of the board of Erie Insurance Group, at the Glenhill Appreciation Dinner at Penn State Behrend on May 23. The college's last four leaders attended the event.
