The May 28 episode of the TLC celebrity genealogy program "Who Do You Think You Are?" featured Joseph Beilein, assistant professor of history at Penn State Behrend. He shared historical documents with the actress Megan Mullally, from "Will & Grace."
Ann Scott, community outreach manager for Erie Insurance Group, has been named vice chair of the board of directors of the Penn State Behrend Council of Fellows. The council advises Chancellor Ralph Ford and other campus leaders on issues related to economic development and regional need.
More than 1,000 Erie County fifth-grade students attended the Children's Water Festival, held May 17 at Penn State Behrend. The day-long event is designed to educate students about the importance of water, including ground water, surface water, watersheds, water quality and water conservation, through dynamic, hands-on activities.
“The Many Threads of Quilting,” a quilt exhibition that opened April 28 at the Erie Art Gallery, served as the senior capstone project for Victoria Alcorn, who graduated this month from Penn State Behrend with a degree in arts administration. For the project, Alcorn curated the exhibition with the work of regional quilters.
The Behrend Medallion, Penn State Behrend’s foremost recognition of an individual who has brought honor to his or her profession and community, was presented to Thomas B. Hagen, chairman of the board of Erie Insurance Group, at the Glenhill Appreciation Dinner at Penn State Behrend on May 23. The college's last four leaders attended the event.
Mary Connerty, senior lecturer in English and director of the English Language Learning program, has received a 2018 George W. Atherton Award for Excellence in Teaching. Kathy Noce, associate teaching professor of MIS and director of the college’s Partnership Erie outreach program, has been selected as one of Penn State’s 2018 Achieving Women by the University’s Commission for Women.
Timothy Kurzweg, a longtime administrator and Drexel University professor, has been selected as director of the School of Engineering at Penn State Behrend, beginning July 1.
Faculty, graduate students and alumni from the Harold and Inge Marcus Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering at Penn State were recognized for their accomplishments at the 2018 Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers Annual Conference and Expo in Orlando, Florida.
The Penn State Behrend baseball team ended its 2018 season with a 25-17 record (12-6 in conference). Back-to-back four-run innings knocked the team out of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference playoffs.
Penn State alumnus Vincent J. Intrieri gave the commencement address at Penn State Behrend's spring commencement ceremony, held May 4 at Erie Insurance Arena. Intrieri is the founder and CEO of VDA Capital Management LLC. He earned a bachelor of science degree in accounting from Penn State Behrend in 1984 and is a certified public accountant.
