The Black School of Business at Penn State Behrend has awarded more than $75,000 to students who are pursuing professional certifications and designations. The funding pays for study guides, training materials and exam fees, among other costs.
The Penn State Behrend women’s basketball team dominated Pitt-Bradford in a 105-45 win in Junker Center. Five players scored double-digit points. The team also defeated Pitt-Greensburg, 90-61.
A $2.13 million endowment has expanded Penn State Behrend’s James R. Meehl Innovation Commons, a product design and prototyping lab where students have supported more than 240 projects for local entrepreneurs, startups and community groups.
The Penn State Behrend women’s bowling team placed third at the two-day Walsh Invitational in Canton, Ohio. The Lions travel to Pitt-Bradford on Jan. 21.
Brittany Anderson, a World Campus graduate who earned degrees in accounting and finance, served as the student marshal for the Black School of Business at Penn State Behrend’s December commencement.
David W. “Dave” Grzelak, a Penn State alumnus and retired chairman and CEO of Komatsu America Corporation who was closely connected to Penn State Behrend, died Dec. 26 at his home in Chicago. He was 73.
Penn State Behrend’s basketball teams stayed active over the semester break. The men’s team competed in the Smokey Ballenger Classic, at Otterbein University in Ohio. The women’s team traveled to Tennessee for the Music City Classic, at Welch College.
A new partnership with the Eagle’s Nest Leadership Corporation will expand Penn State Behrend’s Open Lab model of learning to neighborhoods on Erie’s east side. Behrend faculty members and students will provide training and workshops in financial literacy, entrepreneurial thinking, STEM learning and other skills.
Penn State Behrend awarded 230 undergraduate and graduate degrees at the college’s fall commencement ceremony. The Dec. 16 program, which was held in Junker Center, featured an address by Joseph W. Snyder, retired president and co-founder of Process and Data Automation.
At the conclusion of the University's six-year fundraising effort, “A Greater Penn State for 21st Century Excellence,” Penn State Behrend had much to celebrate: The college had raised more than $75 million — an amount well above the original Behrend campaign goal of $52 million.
