Penn State’s latest COVID-19 vaccination report shows that a majority of students living at Penn State Behrend – 76%, as of Sept. 7 – have provided proof of vaccination. In addition, 89% of full-time employees at Behrend have indicated that they are fully vaccinated.
Applications are now being accepted for the Graduate Certificate in Financial Engineering, which is offered online through Penn State World Campus in partnership with the Penn State Behrend Black School of Business, an AACSB–accredited institution.
The office of Community and Workforce Programs and the Industry 4.0 Center of Excellence at Penn State Behrend will offer free training in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access and related programs that position workers for opportunities in the Industry 4.0 environment. Classes begin Sept. 13.
The Smith Creative Writers Reading Series at Penn State Behrend will feature five poets and prose writers, including Amy Hempel, who has taught fiction writing at Harvard and Bennington. The readings, which will be hosted on Zoom, begin Sept. 2.
A forestry management project underway at Penn State Behrend will remove approximately 290 dead or diseased trees from the Behrend campus and Wintergreen Gorge. A select number of higher-value trees within the project area also will be harvested to open the forest canopy and offset the cost of the project.

The Penn State Office for General Education has announced the selection of seven Penn State faculty who will serve as new advisers and program leaders and will help to build high-impact teaching and learning practices in general education across the institution. The seven new members will serve three-year terms as part of a team of 16 general education faculty scholars.
Penn State students, faculty and staff who are not vaccinated for COVID-19 and those who have not shared with the University that they are fully vaccinated will be required to test weekly for COVID-19 throughout the fall semester, or until they share with the University that they have been fully vaccinated.
A 20-minute film written, directed and produced by two Penn State Behrend students, using equipment borrowed from the college, will debut on the festival circuit later this year.
Six business leaders with experience in management, finance and product innovation will serve as Executives in Residence at Penn State Behrend’s Black School of Business during the 2021-22 academic year.
