This past summer, Behrend student Sean Wither interned with Delaware North, a global food service and hospitality company that supports several of the country’s professional sports teams. Wither was stationed at Target Field in Minneapolis, home of Major League Baseball’s Minnesota Twins.
Penn State Behrend’s fifth annual Faculty, Staff, and Alumni Art Show will open Nov. 5 with a “Meet the Artists” reception from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Lilley Library gallery.
Sophomore Matt Olimski scored with just two seconds left in the game to lead the Penn State Behrend men’s water polo team past Washington and Jefferson, 12-11. The win earned the Lions a third-place finish at the Collegiate Water Polo Association's Division III Eastern championships.
Erie Insurance has partnered with Penn State Behrend to create scholarships for first-year students and funding for upper-level students to work with local businesses and nonprofits. In its first year, the $4 million program, called Excelerate, is expected to provide scholarships and stipends for as many as 50 students.
"If we adopt the idea, that art delights, instructs and moves, and we think about governing as moving one another, steering one another, then — in this definition — all art is, de facto, political. It tries to delight, to instruct, and to move us in some way," said John Champagne, the 2018-19 Penn State Laureate, during his lecture on Oct. 12, part of the Penn State Forum speaker series.
A loss to Elizabethtown snapped a seven-match winning streak for the Penn State Behrend volleyball team. Setter Lexi Irwin, a senior from Greensburg, was named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference athlete of the week for the third time this season.
George Emanuele, who is an executive-in-residence in the Black School of Business, will deliver the presentation “Perspective on the Economy and Financial Markets” at Penn State Behrend at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29.
Six former student-athletes were inducted into the Penn State Behrend Athletics Hall of Fame on Sept. 29. The college’s 1993 softball and women’s basketball teams also were honored.
Researchers at Penn State Behrend and University Park are developing a virtual-reality simulation that will place engineering students in an interactive and immersive manufacturing environment. The National Science Foundation is supporting the project with nearly $300,000 in funding.
