Soccer, Volleyball Teams Picked to Win AMCC Titles

Three teams from Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, topped preseason polls for the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference. Competition begins Friday, when the men’s soccer team hosts Bethany at the Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament.

The soccer team has the benefit of experience: Five seniors and three juniors will start for the squad, including senior Eric Hackworth, the AMCC Defender of the Year for 2012.

MBA Students Earn Top Marks in ETS Major Field Test

Students in the Master of Business Administration program at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, scored in the top 3 percent on the most recent ETS Major Field Test, a national assessment of university programs.

Students take the exam during their final year of study, after completing most of a program’s required courses. Many of the questions are based on case-study scenarios and require knowledge of marketing, management, finance and managerial accounting.

The region's economy has endured worse setbacks, however, and other economic indicators -- the interest-rate spread and the S&P 500 Index -- suggest modest growth locally in the months ahead.
