This list of courses is tentative, and could change due to issues with instructors’ schedules, coordinator placement, or space availability. The final schedule for week one will be available on the CampDoc registration site.

All About Science Experiments! NEW COURSE!

Dates: June 9–13
Time: 9:00 a.m.–noon

Description: Welcome to a world full of wacky, fun science experiments! In this course, children will get a simplified introduction to scientific processes. Together, we will explore each step of the scientific method. Every day, students will conduct a new experiment, and they can bring their findings home to share with family and friends. This class is designed to spark a love for science in children, while allowing them to have fun and learn how to observe, hypothesize, experiment, and analyze!

Do, Re, Mi! NEW COURSE!

Time: 9:00 a.m.–noon

Cost: $125

Description: Calling all young music lovers! In this course, students will embark on a fun-filled journey into the world of music notation. Through engaging games, hands-on activities, and plenty of singing, students will learn to read and write musical notes, rhythms, and symbols. We’ll explore the musical staff, note values, and simple melodies, helping children develop a strong foundation in music literacy. Whether your child is a budding musician or just discovering their love for music, this class will make learning do, re, mi as easy as 1, 2, 3! At the end of the week, the students would like to invite their parents to a ‘show and tell’ session that highlights all of the new skills they learned during the course.

*This course was made possible through a donation in memory of Mike Sider in order to instill a passion and love for music into the next generation of children.

Pack Your Passports!

Description: Pack your bags and get ready for an exciting journey around the world! In this fun and interactive course, young explorers will embark on a thrilling adventure to discover the cultures, traditions, and wonders of the United States, England, Italy, Mexico, and Australia. Through engaging firsthand activities, storytelling, music, art, and games, children will explore famous landmarks, try new languages, and learn about the unique customs that make each country special. From the Statue of Liberty to the Great Barrier Reef, from Italian pasta to Mexican fiestas, every class is a new adventure! This course is designed to spark curiosity, inspire a love for diverse cultures, and create lasting memories—while building important social and cognitive skills. Get ready for a world of fun, learning, and imagination!

*Due to an increase in the cost of groceries and food needed for this course, a $10 fee has been added to the class to cover the cost of items the students will use during the program.

Wonderful Wanderers

Dates: June 9–13

Description: Welcome to the great outdoors at Penn State Behrend! Each day, we will explore and discover a different aspect of the natural world around us. Through games, art activities, stories, and discussions, we will engage with the outdoors in exciting ways. Our adventures will include exploring the weather, plants, backyard wildlife, rocks, and water. Perfect for young explorers and nature-loving kids! Come prepared for an outdoor adventure as we spend most of our time roaming the beautiful campus of Behrend!

Description: Sponsored by the METALS program at Penn State Behrend, this course is designed to spark an interest in the engineering fields this campus has to offer! Dive into the world of modern engineering and manufacturing with this dynamic, hands-on class designed for curious minds! Students will get a taste of additive manufacturing through 3D printing, creating custom models and even experimenting with edible chocolate creations for a fun twist. The course will also introduce students to the art and science of sandcasting, where they will mold and pour molten metal to create unique objects. At the end of the week, parents will be invited in for a special event on Friday where students will display their projects and highlight the skills they learned throughout the week.

*Due to the nature of this course, children will be required to wear closed-toe shoes as well as pants during this specific session of College for Kids. Students will be given hands-on experience in the engineering labs within our School of Engineering and Burke facilities during this program. 

*If participating in this course, please arrive as early as possible for sign-in each day. Registration will begin at 8:40 a.m. and 12:40 p.m. daily. The METALS program will have a separate line for students in order to get them to the engineering labs in Burke as soon as possible. Additionally, please anticipate delays in pickup times as well. Students will be travelling across campus for class daily.

Sculpting with a Twist!

Dates: June 9–13
Time: 9:00 a.m.–noon
Instructor: Tami Hritzay
Age Group: 10–14
Cost: $135

Description: Welcome to an art class where anything goes! Use your inventive minds to create abstract works of art! Using various supplies—recycled metals, glass, wire, paper, and cardboard—we will give new life to our creations. Once the students spend a week letting their creative juices flow, designing fabulous works of art, they will host a semi-formal art show on Friday to conclude the course and for the parents/guardians to attend and view the class's hard work!

*Due to an increase in the cost of art supplies and materials for this course, a $10 fee has been added to the class to cover the cost of items the students will use during the program.

Star Wars and the Roman Empire

Dates: June 9–13
Time: 9:00 a.m.–noon
Instructor: Dan Quiggle
Age Group: 10–14

Description: Welcome to a world where sci-fi meets history! In this course, we will examine how the creator of Star Wars was a huge history buff, and due to that, he borrowed some of the main concepts of his movies from the pages within a history textbook. Be prepared to unravel history and blow your minds! This course shows you how history tends to repeat itself while having fun and learning! It is the perfect course for any Star Wars fan or history nerd!

Piezano Pies!

Description: This pizza oven went viral on TikTok last summer, and as a result, our pizza-making courses sold out! Welcome to another exciting summer of Piezano Pies! In this week-long course, students will explore the history of pizza, learn about assorted styles and toppings, and master the art of creating the perfect pie. Each day, they will experiment with various pizza types, try new toppings, and work on perfecting their own personal pizza creation. Along the way, students will learn how to measure ingredients accurately, safely bake their pizzas, and write their own recipes—all while using the viral Piezano Pie Pizza Ovens featured on TikTok! It is the perfect course for anyone who loves to cook or enjoys pizza! BEWARE OF FOOD ALLERGENS!

**Due to an increase in the cost of groceries and food needed for this course, a $10 fee has been added to the class to cover the cost of items the students will use during the program.

In Music on Reed Lawn, we’ll take music learning outdoors, using games and movement to explore rhythm, melody, and other musical concepts in a fun and active way. From drumming on natural objects to creating musical patterns with our bodies, students will discover their hidden musical talents while enjoying the fresh air. This class is perfect for kids who love to move, play, and express themselves through sound—because music is everywhere, and learning it should be an adventure! Video Game Design & Creative Coding

Description: Welcome to the exciting world of coding and game design! In this course, students will embark on a journey to unleash their creativity while learning fundamental coding concepts using Scratch. Scratch is beginner-friendly, block-based programming, perfect for young learners to dive into the world of computer science and game development. Throughout this course, students will learn the basics of programming logic, problem-solving, and computational thinking through hands-on projects and engaging activities. They will explore the principles of game design, including character movement, user input, game mechanics, and storytelling, all while building fun and interactive games. This course offers a limited amount of availability and will sell out! Please plan accordingly!

The Author’s Stitch

Description: Welcome to Author's Stitch, a creative classroom where students will write, create, and design their very own book! In this course, students will learn the art of writing and illustrating a story. Each day, they will hear short stories, discover the steps involved in crafting a narrative, and add to their own personal storybook. Join us for an exciting journey as you create your own magical tale! This course is perfect for students who can read and write and are ready to bring their imagination to life!

A World at War…

Description: Do you like history? Are you a fan of World War II? This is the course for you! In this course, we will cover the most interesting time period in modern American history! Be prepared to discuss topics such as Pearl Harbor, the dropping of atomic bombs, concentration camps, and the rise and fall of Germany's Nazi Party. This class is based on student-led discussion and interest; so, what the students want to learn, we shall dive in and discuss!

Introduction to Robotics

Description: Come explore the fascinating world of robotics, where robots are found everywhere—from toys and industrial machines to those used in space exploration.
