With the help of Karen Rizzo, assistant professor of special education, Penn State Behrend first-year student Morgan Yelverton planned the Valentine’s Day Extravaganza, held Saturday, Feb. 10, at North East School District’s Earle C. Davis Primary school. This free, carnival-type event was open to all in the Erie region and featured games designed for inclusion.
A Penn State Behrend student investment team will compete at the CFA Institute Research Challenge in Pittsburgh. The college won the regional event in 2016 and again in 2017.
Five of the eight measures in the Erie Leading Index, an economic forecasting tool developed at Penn State Behrend's Black School of Business, showed growth between June and September. "The economy is adjusting," says Ken Louie, associate professor of economics at the college.
Students from Massachusetts, New York and Wisconsin earned the top three prizes in the 2017 Lake Effect National High School Poetry Contest. In total, the contest received nearly 2,000 entries.
Penn State Behrend runner Rachel Pell qualified for three events at the Eastern College Athletic Conference championships with a strong performance at Mt. Union. She placed second in the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes and was fourth in the 60-meter hurdles.
Nicole Shoenberger, an assistant professor of sociology at Penn State Behrend, will discuss the dangers of cults during the college’s next presentation of the Colloquium Series in Psychological Sciences and Human Behavior.
Chief investment strategist and regular CNBC contributor Mark Luschini will discuss the 2018 outlook for the financial markets when the Finance Speaker Series returns to Penn State Behrend on Wednesday, Feb. 21.
