Penn State Behrend senior Allyson Maloney spent the fall semester in Tanzania, studying butterflies and the impact of elephant herds in Tarangire Natonal Park. "It's hard to believe how beautiful one place can be," she says.
More than 20 students recently completed Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) general industry training at Penn State Behrend. The 10-hour training educates individuals to identify and prevent or remove common worksite hazards.

The FirstEnergy Foundation, solely funded by FirstEnergy Corp., has donated $175,000 to support the Penn State College of Engineering’s Learning Factory Senior Capstone Design Projects at the University Park, Behrend and Berks campuses.

Atherton Award for Excellence in Teaching — Fred Aebli, information sciences and technology program co-coordinator and lecturer at Penn State Worthington Scranton; Elaine S. Barry, associate professor of human development and family studies at Penn State Fayette; Mary Connerty, senior lecturer in English at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College; Dennis Decoteau, professor of horticulture and plant system health in the College of Agricultural Sciences; Fred Fonseca, associate professor of information sciences and technology in the College of Information Sciences and Technology; and Michael Janik, professor of chemical engineering in the College of Engineering.
Andrew Byrnes, the former chief of staff at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, will discuss his career path and innovation April 3 when he visits Penn State Behrend as part of the college’s Speaker Series.
