Nearly 40 girls from six different school districts took part in Women in Technology Day, which was held March 22 and sponsored by the Penn State Behrend's Youth Education Outreach office. Several companies, including National Fuel Gas Company, Erie Insurance, TechnipFMC and Wabtec Corporation, hosted activities designed to introduce students to careers that are made possible by majoring in computing or information technology.
A record 186 companies attended Penn State Behrend's Spring Career and Internship Fair, held March 20 in the college’s Junker Center. Nearly 750 students attended the event, which was sponsored by the Academic and Career Planning Center.
Presentations on 3D animation, virtual reality and augmented reality, as well as musical performances and a slow-motion video booth, will all be offered March 25-26 during the fourth-annual Digital Media Festival at Penn State Behrend.
Darren Williams, professor of astronomy and astrophysics, will discuss the Apollo 11 Mission and its historical significance, on Thursday, April 4, when Open House Night in Astronomy returns to Penn State Behrend. Following Williams’ talk, Jim Gavio, director of the college’s Yahn Planetarium, will outline future plans for lunar exploration.
Penn State Behrend’s baseball team swept Muskingum in a nonconference doubleheader, winning 8-4 and 7-5. With two outs in the 10th inning, the team scored four runs to win the opener. The college’s softball, volleyball, tennis and water polo teams also were in action last week. Here are the highlights.

On Wednesday, April 10, the Kassia Ensemble with Mary Bowden will perform one of their first concerts together at Penn State Behrend as part of Music at Noon: The Logan Series. Their concert takes place at noon in McGarvey Commons, in the college’s Reed Union Building.
As Penn State University Libraries launches into its third University-wide Libraries Short Stories writing contest, previous Penn State authors’ winning works now have twice the potential to be printed and read across Pennsylvania, with the University Libraries’ installation of new Short Edition story dispensers at five of its Commonwealth Campus libraries.
