ERIE Conference explores the future of manufacturing

Manufacturing employment in Erie County has decreased since the 1970s. Some jobs have come back, but the downward trend likely will continue, said Ken Louie, director of the Economic Research Institute of Erie. "There's a ratcheting effect downward, and that may be our major challenge," he said.

Visible Emissions Training Program improved for 2017-18

Penn State Facilities Engineering Institute (PSFEI) has announced schedule information for its 2017-18 Visible Emissions Training Program. Casually known as “Smoke School,” the program is designed for individuals who want to become certified in areas of air pollution prevention, technology, regulation, measurement and science.

Experience the Great American Eclipse with Penn State Behrend

To commemorate the Great American Eclipse, Penn State Behrend invites guests to visit its School of Science on Monday, Aug. 21, for telescopic viewing of the phenomenon. Free parking will be available in the parking lot outside the School of Science Complex, which is also the site for the telescopic viewing.

Behrend student seeks to make difference through financial planning

Jason Pettner was recognized for his accomplishments this spring at Penn State Behrend's Excellence in Student Leadership and Service Awards when he received the T. Reed Ferguson Award. The award honors a junior who has demonstrated scholarship, leadership and citizenship through his or her academic and out-of-class involvement and shows promise of further achievement in the senior year.

Because of her heritage and previous life experiences, Wenrui Cai, who is of Chinese descent but was raised in Milan, Italy, has always been interested in interacting with diverse populations. Alexandra Alfonso Castro, a chemistry major who recently completed her junior year at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, has made it her mission to promote healthy habits on campus. She created the Campus Health and Fitness Club, a new student organization that educates students on how they can avoid getting sick.
